CSR – Why and what's in it for me?

An Abundance of Hot Air

Following Stefan Stern’s provocative article on Tuesday, I thought I’d make it easy to find some of the many interesting responses that are out there so far.

Here are Business Respect owner Mallen Baker’s reply (as posted in my original response), Kevin Moss Head of CSR BT Americas and Stephen Howard, Chief Executive of Business in the Community. All offered good strong counter arguments filled with detail and passion.

Some focus on supply chain issues, about terminology and the true meaning of CSR. Stephen Howard summed it up well in his comment with these words,

“What the current economic and financial crisis shows is that businesses need to accept responsibility for failures and to begin to re-engage stakeholders so that the gulf in trust between business and society can be bridged – actions are now called for, not just words.”

It’s been an interesting week and kept me entertained. Thanks Stefan.
